We are an organization of individuals whose lives have been touched by Anna. We have been amazed by the distance over which Anna has touched lives. The fact that you are now reading this indicates she has entered your life, even if only in a small way.
Our primary goal is is to have the world “Do something nice, for someone else, every day.” This can be as simple as smiling at someone who looks like they have had a rough day, to holding a door open for someone heading into (or out of a building), or donating blood. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Start small and together we can work our way up.
Our fundraising efforts currently are centered on the production of “Parent Packs” or “Survival Sacks”. These are bags containing items needed by the caregiver/parent/guardian when faced with an unplanned admission to the hospital. The bags contain: shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, a blanket, fuzzy socks, pajama pants and a t-shirt. Having experienced several emergency admissions to the hospital where we only had the clothes we were wearing; we have attempted to supply items needed over the course of a few days. Children’s Hospitals are great at supplying the items that the kids need but are lacking in the care for the adult care giver. Sometimes a shower in the early hours of the morning, before the Fellows and Residents have even started rounds, is what is needed to prepare for the day. When the stress levels are climbing, the shower gives you a chance to cry it out and have it washed away, before starting the day and advocating for your kiddo!
Our dream is to open a facility to provide comprehensive opportunities for life enhancement for all. Volunteer opportunities will exist for those of us who want to help out but don’t know how to get started. Therapies, life skill learning and engineering would make up the primary mission of the organization and facility. We dream of a facility where parents and kids can meet with engineers and say “this is what we need” and we can make it happen. We dream of a facility where parents are an integral part of therapy and opportunities abound when insurance coverage for the year runs out. We dream of a facility where aquatic therapy is available at reasonable costs, where hippotherapy (and therapeutic riding) is not an unusual modality, where life skill training is readily available (as schools are in need of cutting back programs). We dream of a facility where people can volunteer and learn. Where if you have ever said -“I’d like to do something but I don’t know what or how to get started” we can help you to help others. We are continuing to seek the perfect piece of land, allowing easy access to highways , to build our dream facility: a place with a gym for parents to get a workout in while their kids are in therapy, a place with a coffee shop/restaurant staffed by individuals working on life skills training, a place with a large therapeutic pool to increase extensibility of muscle fibers, a place with a lap pool to allow for water work and training for Special Olympics, a pool where paddle boards could be used to work on core strengthening, a place with an insulated and solar heated riding arena so therapeutic riding and hippo-therapy could be comfortable year round, a place with an indoor playground where therapy could be both fun and beneficial, a place which is more like home than a hospital.
